The Getaway Plan

No band has made the amount of noise in the Australian rock underground as quickly as The Getaway Plan. In just two years, these four boys have risen from their teenage punk rock beginnings in Melbourne, to the forefront of the independent rock scene. And they’ve done it in style. On the back of healthy radio play for their debut EP, “Hold Conversation”, the band toured across the country relentlessly, eventually catching the attention of world reknown American bands Taking Back Sunday and The Used, both of whom requested The Getaway Plan open for them on their sold out Australian runs.

In July 2007, the band flew to Florida to record with acclaimed US Producer James Paul Wisner, who has worked on a number of US Gold certified records, and is known for brilliance in bringing a bands melodies to the forefront of cutting edge and energetic music. The result is their debut album Other Voices, Other Rooms, due for release February 9th, 2007. The opening single “Streetlight” was released in November 2007, and was added immediately to Triple J, Channel V, JTV and MTV playlists. They capped off their stellar year with an opening spot for My Chemical Romance on their national tour, an appearance on MTV’s “The Lair” Program (where they debuted second single “Where the City Meets the Sea”) and with a performance at Pyramid Rock Festival on New Years Eve.

But while there’s no disputing that The Getaway Plan’s hard work has been integral to their success, it is the dynamics within The Getaway Plan and their music that has enabled them to set themselves apart from the pack in such a short space of time. With influences stretching far and wide down the musical spectrum, it is in the band’s delivery that they set they find their place. Their music understands the power of melody, while simultaneously utilizing subtlety and aggression to give the melody the impact it deserves.

Vocalist Matthew Wright’s is in many ways the perfect frontman. He has an undeniable sense of style and charisma, yet both on and off stage he posseses the kind of depth and grace that allows people to connect with him. It’s something that (while many will try) cannot be manufactured or created, and it’s something that very few people truly have. In his lyrics and in his music, he has an ability to sing sometimes disturbingly personal lyrics in such a way, that anyone could feel the song was for them. The Getaway Plan is rounded out by Guitarist Clint Splattering, bassist Dave Anderson and drummer Aaron Barnett.

Other Voices, Other Rooms will challenge your own perception of The Getaway Plan while raising the expectations of all future debut albums by Australian artists.
