Philadelphia Grand Jury

Philadelphia Grand Jury is two childhood buddies of some 20 years: Producer / singer / guitarist Berkfinger and bassist / keys man MC Bad Genius. After some time touring with rotating drummers the Philly Jays (as their fans affectionately refer to them) found the missing link for their epic live show - joining Berkfinger and MC Bad Genius is 54 year-old African American drummer ‘Calvin’ - who used to session drum for US disco and funk acts like Earth Wind and Fire and bebop legend Sonny Stitt.

Together this high energy threesome are a self-funded, self-produced, self-engineered, self-released independent punk soul machine.

The band’s first UK single ‘The Good News’ is out through Beggar’s singles label Too Pure (born from the ashes of the celebrated London indie label) and features garage punk B-side ‘Ready To Roll’. Produced by Berkfinger (who has also done his part on records for Wolfmother, The Temper Trap, Art vs Science) ‘The Good News’ singles have seen the band compared to a punkier version of Elvis Costello and regular references to The Eels and Talking Heads.

The Philly Jays are exciting to watch and critics have lauded them as “a band you must see before you die”. Literally explosive on stage their only secret is to write great songs and play them like it’s their last show ever. Every. Single. Time.
