Envy on the Coast

What do you get when you take two disheartened friends, sit them in a coffee shop with nothing more than just their creative minds, pensive dreams and the simple desire to play in a band without the gimmicks, egos and facades? Fast-forward three years and add three other friends and what you get is Long Island’s latest experimental alternative rock band, Envy On The Coast!

In many cases, imagination can easily lead to immense time wasting-but not for this determined quintet. Fronted by vocalist, Ryan Hunter (who is often compared to Glassjaw’s vocalist Daryl Palumbo) and joined by guitarists Brian Byrne and Sal Bossio, bassist Jeremy Velardi, and drummer Dan Gluszak, together these young lads say goodbye to the coffee shop and take the reigns to steer their dreams into a living reality.

The core concept behind Envy’s very existence lies within their desire to perform anywhere and everywhere, and without all traces of the rock star attitude. As a result, it wasn’t long before reality hit. Signing to Photo Finish Records in 2006, Envy On The Coast burst into the post-hardcore scene with the backing force of their break-through self-titled EP debut. Envy’s sound is explosive yet distinct. A killer cocktail mix with a stint of Glassjaw’s rage, the craftiness of Brand New, and the raw emotion of Taking Back Sunday is the sum of Envy On The Coast.

Voluntarily engulfed by the world of touring and all that comes with it-from the long drives and coffee shakes, to playing shows and hanging out with their fans-this is the life Envy work hard to live. Evidently, touring with a piano amongst the many hardcore acts they have shared the stage with hasn’t come without its harshest critics. But in spite of the fuel for scorn, Envy On The Coast refuse to compromise in their delivery, and care more about its extended family of devoted fans than it does for its fame.

Notably, their admirable stance and stupendous dedication has inevitability given them the brazen opportunities to tour with the big names including My Chemical Romance, 30 Seconds To Mars, Angels and Airwaves, Saosin and Boys Like Girls, and requests to take part of major festivals including Warped, Bamboozle and Australia’s very own, Soundwave.

After a year of extensive touring all over the United States, Envy On The Coast has unleashed their long awaited full-length debut album, “Lucy Gray”. With the make up of twelve inspired, powerful and carefully crafted songs, featuring ‘Sugar Skulls’ and commanding new single, ‘Mirrors’, “Lucy Gray” has be described as the rare album that not only traces a band’s evolution, but also transcends their many accomplishments through a truly definitive artistic statement.

To this day their desires have not changed. Envy On The Coast want nothing more than to tour all over the world and meet as many fans as they possibly can in every place they go. So expect to hear and see more from Envy as they refuse to let the critics prevail.
